Fine Art Landscape, Wildlife, Portrait & Commercial Photography Welcome to my world of fine art landscapes, travel, wildlife, portrait, automotive and commercial photography, where you can purchase fine art limited edition prints, enjoy view my latest work and projects or you can commission me for a photographic assignment or portrait.
I first got serious about photography in 1984 when I took up scuba diving and wanted to show others what I'd seen while diving, although I'd been taking photos since I was a kid after my grandfather gave me his old rangefinder camera. Underwater photography has lots of challenges and I learnt a lot from my early experiences especially using film, today it's a lot easier to do using digital cameras. |
Early Work, 1980's - 1990's
By the late 1980's I was shooting moody black & white portraits for clients and developing and printing my film. By the late 90's I'd got into computers and was experimenting with my film shots editing in Photoshop for an HDR style black & white image. I'd also ventured into graphic design using my own shots in clients printed media and the two skills developed side-by-side.
"Three of my very early portraits taken in 1987 when I first started out as a portrait photographer.
Before the late 90's I had to do all the dodging and burning in my darkroom. It's much easier now with digital cameras and a computer."

"My camera back then was the cheapest SLR make you'd never heard of and I could only just about afford it at the time, I only had one not very good kit lens to go with it. Looking back I'm amazed I got pictures this good from it knowing what I know now"
It has always been hard not to get pigeonholed into just one skill set or style of photography, hence I worked under a company name rather than my own, studio808 limited. Being a company made life much easier at being multi-talented in different areas without the penalty of not being taken seriously by clients and the industry.
I've always prided myself on a high quality professional service with a fast turnaround, whether that’s design or photography. Over the years I've taken photos of most subject matter and my site just show a fraction of the many thousands of photographs I take. Getting the shot is my biggest obsession...and not much stops me from getting it!
I have a saying, "One man's wasteland is another man's landscape", meaning I'll find a way to shot and capture the subject/view and create a beautiful image even if the weather, light or time of day isn't perfect. I like to think I've created my own unique style of photography over the years, whether it’s a portrait, event, landscape, wildlife or product shots. I've always have a passion for the great outdoors and more adventurous side of life, from climbing mountains to diving the oceans - photography is a way of expressing my view of this beautiful planet of ours and it's magnificent creatures who live on it. "Photography is a way of life, I can’t imagine my life without it.” |
